Delivery driver needed! An exciting opportunity to join our growing team at our award-winning, family owned retail store. As one of the largest independent Pet and Feed supply retailers in Placer County, we're looking for the right individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced, animal loving, customer service-oriented environment.
You will deliver customer products such as hay, shavings & feed. This is not just a driving position. It is a very physically demanding position. It requires moving heavy bales of hay for extended periods of time. The person filling this position must be hardworking, reliable and have good customer service skills. They must be capable of working independently and as part of our energetic team.
Basic Requirements include (but are not limited to):
- Class C License (no special license needed)
- Clean driving record (no more than 1 point)
- Must be 21 or older (insurance requirements)
- Physically able to lift heavy objects multiple times per day
- Physically able to work in weather temperatures over 100 degrees
- Physically able to move and transfer merchandise throughout the store, warehouse, and yard and delivery locations for 2-4 hours continuously without breaks
- Able to work around large amounts of hay, dust and dirt daily
- Read, write and count accurately
- Squat, bend, stoop, and climb ladders
- Work varied hours, days, nights, and weekends as business dictates
- Stand and walk for long periods of time often up to four hours straight without a break
- Communicate effectively with team members and customers
- Exercise good judgment in delivery situations where conditions are not ideal
Roles and Responsibilities include:
- Greeting customers in a professional and friendly manner upon arriving at their home
- Loading work trucks carefully and accurately based on items that were purchased
- Unloading items at delivery locations carefully and stacking items neatly
- Maintaining clean and safe delivery trucks
- Perform weekly truck inspections to check fluids, tire pressure, etc.
- Safely strap down large loads of items on the delivery trucks
- Operating large equipment such as hay squeeze, forklift, flatbed trucks, etc.
- Operating equipment such as a dolly, hand truck, hand-held blower, computer, etc.
- Use judgment to assess a delivery scenario and determine optimal conditions for parking and unloading
- Inspect delivery items for damage, etc. and report findings to management
- Provide excellent customer service
- Report any equipment malfunctions to management
- Scheduling appointments for equipment servicing
Other Knowledge, Skills Or Abilities desired:
- Farming, ranching, pet/equine knowledge is desired
- Forklift experience desired
A typical delivery day may consist of the following:
Load delivery truck with 64 hay bales
Drive to customer’s location
Unload by hand, drag 10 ft, and stack hay bales in barn
Return to store
Load 6 pallets of shavings (45 bags per pallet)
Drive to customer’s location
Unload by hand, stack in barn
Return to store
Load 1 pallet feed (40 bags per pallet, 50# bags), 1 pallet shavings, 20 hay bales
Drive to customer’s location
Unload by hand, drag to various desired locations, stack for customer
Return to store
